Disaster Situation
Due to heavy rain in northern part of Myanmar since mid-July and again the affects of the Cyclone Komen in August, Chin state suffered flash flood and landslides. As of 5th September, 9 townships in Chin state were affected by these floods and landslide causing 12 death toll, 2925 houses destroyed and displaced population is 21,618. Hakha, the capital, being severely affected by landslides, have to relocate another appropriate location. JAXA analysis on landslide in Chin state showed 52 landslide slots and three landslide dams. One of the said landslide dams failed on 28 August and Hakhalay village was swept in mudflow causing 30 out of 40 cattles were died with no human causalities. Now these populations (around 350) were evacuated in a nearby monastery on a higher land. We need to explore the whole Chin State to check for similar events.
