Disaster Situation
Due to the activation of the North-East monsoon in Sri Lanka, a total of 230,185 people have been affected and 26 people have been dead across 17 districts. The months of October and November are usually the northeastern monsoon season in Sri Lanka causing a range of disasters including floods and landslides all over Sri Lanka. However, higher-than-usual rainfall has been reported in most parts of the country this year. The current weather in Sri Lanka is caused by a wind convergence zone formed in the western part of the country which is enhanced by a low-pressure situation in the South-East area of the Bay of Bengal.
