Disaster Situation
On Thursday evening, a tragic incident occurred near the Ungar village in Maedtsho gewog, Lhuentse, Bhutan, where 23 people residing near the stream were washed away. A flood with debris descended upon the usually a small stream, carrying an onslaught of mud, rocks, and trees, which overwhelmed the campsite operated by Druk Green Project Corporation. the disaster resulted in the loss of 8 lives, and 15 individuals are still reported missing.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, the Department of Local Government and disaster management is diligently investigating the cause of the flood in Ungar. Their focus lies in identifying the exact breakage point and assessing other contributing factors that led to the disaster. To achieve this, were also evaluating the extent of damage and loss incurred.
