On the morning of August 1, 2025, the provinces of Dien Bien and Son La in Vietnam were in a state of high danger due to flash floods, landslides, and the rapid rise of the Mã River. In Dien Bien, there have been fatalities and missing persons, severe disruptions to transportation, and hundreds of households have been evacuated. In Son La, the province has declared a state of emergency and continues to closely monitor developments to respond promptly.
