Disaster Situation
The collapsed of dam in Kazakhstan. The emergency occurred between April 5 and 6, 2026, at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the Korgalzhyn district of the Akmola region of Kazakhstan. A breach occurred at the Shoptykol dam in the Korgalzhyn district of Kazakhstan's Akmola region, 2 km from the village of Sabyndy. Emergency services, including 170 personnel and 43 units of equipment from the MES, police, and road crews, are working to reinforce the levee and divert water. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations and 'KazAutoZhol,' no flooding of the Astana–Korgalzhyn highway has occurred; water is currently spreading through fields, and culverts are handling the flow as normal.
