Disaster Situation
The enhanced southwest monsoon, or Habagat, has brought heavy rains over Luzon Island since Friday (Aug. 28, 2026), with forecasts indicating that the conditions will persist through this weekend (Aug. 30, 2026). Significant rainfall is expected, particularly over the western parts of Luzon. Numerous flooding events, especially in urbanized and low-lying areas and those near rivers, are likely, while landslides could also occur in areas with moderate to high susceptibility. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Saturday warned of possible lahar flows from Mount Pinatubo and Taal Volcano amid the continuous rains.
